Gollan Confident of 2014 Railway Stakes Success

November 12th, 2014

Securing several notable results while notably luckless, trainer Tony Gollan is confident the featured Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse on November 22nd figures as the perfect event for Alma’s Fury to cap his racing year.

Finishing a credible seventh in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) first-up on September 13th, Alma’s Fury was unlucky to be blocked for a run and eleventh in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 28th, but has returned to slick form in finishing fourth in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) and second in the Group 3 Yellowglen Stakes (1400m) most recently; form from the latter franked when winner Hucklebuck charged home to win the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) last weekend.

Pleased with the tenacity and fortitude shown by the Refuse To Bend gelding over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Gollan told AAP he is confident recent results point towards a successful performance in the 2014 Railway Stakes.

“He had no luck at all in the spring and he wasn’t far behind some top-class horses when he had no luck,” Gollan said.

“I think he has a real chance in Perth.”

Securing a commendable total of eight wins and a further 13 minor places from his 53 competitive appearances at the races so far, Alma’s Fury began his racing career under the guidance of trainer Paul Murray before transferring to the care of Gollan at the conclusion of his autumn campaign this year.

Finishing seventh in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) in his first start for the leading Brisbane trainer, Alma’s Fury repaid his connections for the change in training environments in winning both the Listed Eye Liner Quality (1350m) and Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) back-to-back.

Yet to be confirmed in the final field for the Perth feature, Alma’s Fury is currently available at generous odds of $15 for success in the 2014 Railway Stakes; sharing the sixth line of betting with the likes of Black Heart Bart and Ihtsahymn with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
