Fifteen milers have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2015 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Delicacy ($4.20) remains outright favourite in 2015 Railway Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Black Heart Bart and Real Love; currently sharing the second line at generous $5 quotes.
Will Delicacy justify her favouritism and win the 2015 Railway Stakes or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Team Hawkes runner Messene has returned to racing in typically slick form this time, relishes firm tracks and undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money at 2015 Railway Stakes odds of $12 for success. Posting nine wins and a further five minors through 22 career starts so far, the Lonhro gelding returned this time for fifth in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) on August 8th; progressing to third in the talent-rich Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and continuing to work towards a huge effort for fourth in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) most notably on October 3rd. Messene will leave from the ideal barrier 2 with Damian Browne aboard in the Railway Stakes.
Black Heart Bart ($5)
Leading local Black Heart Bart has returned to racing in typically scintillating form this time but will require some luck from the wide barrier 11 and has been charged with carrying a race-high 58kgs. Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times through 23 career starts so far, the Blackfriars gelding returned this year for consecutive wins in the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m), Listed Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m), Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m) and the Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m) before running fourth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m). Returning to the paddock after failing to fire in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), Black Heart Bart has one each of the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m), Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1420m) and Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) this time.
The 1600m of the 2015 Railway Stakes is definitely below Delicacy’s best, however the two-time Group 1 winner’s class alone is sure to count for a lot on Saturday. Taking out each of the Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m), Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m), Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m) and Group 2 WATC Derby (2400m) in succession in the early stages of this year, Delicacy delivered a talented field defeat in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on May 2nd before repeating the dose in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m) a week later.
