Mackintosh will carry only 54kgs in the Railway Stakes, but faces a big task in breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level this weekend after drawing into the Railway Stakes field in the wide barrier 16.

Mackintosh was a standout for trainer Chris Waller through this year’s Brisbane Winter Carnival; posting wins in each of the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2000m) and Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) most notably.

Resuming this time for a classy win in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m), the Pins gelding progressed to third in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) before a luckless, albeit strong performance for fifth in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) last time out on October 29th.

Local hope Perfect Reflection has firmed in betting markets for the Ascot feature after drawing the ideal barrier 2 for her run in the Railway Stakes.

Perfect Reflection has been a strong and consistent performer through her entire racing career so far; posting six wins and a further two minors through only nine competitive starts.

Returning to competition for third in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m) on October 15th, the daughter of More Than Ready delivered a talented field a comfortable defeat in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago and appears as though she will be tough to beat under the conditions of the Railway Stakes.

Defending champion Good Project will have no issue performing to a high standard with 55kgs in tow, has the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle and should receive an ideal run in transit after drawing the ideal barrier 7.

Good Project has been unable to return to winning form since he won the Railway Stakes in 2015, but the five-year-old’s proven ability at the course and in the race suggest he’ll be right in the finish on Saturday.

Resuming for tenth in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m), the Not A Single Doubt entire ran ion for fourth in the talent-rich Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) before placing a handy seventh in the Cantala Stakes last time out.

Local runner Heart Starter has drawn on the rails in the Railway Stakes field, while Disposition will leave from the outside gate in the feature race.
